i.
hate.
flying.
example? as i type this i’m sitting next to a guy who is eating goldfish out of the pocket of his sweatshirt....... across from is a girl who passed the gate three times... and then stopped to ask the guy behind the counter what gate was assigned for cleveland....even though “C1” is written in huge block letters, with an equally large red sign that says “departing: cleveland” directly where the gate starts…...across from me is another girl who actually owns an ugg purse and is oompa loompa “au nautrel” orange....and is enthralled with her bedazzled cell phone.....and behind me is a guy who has absolutely no game at all, but thinks he’s a stud because the absolutely hideous bleach blonde chick sitting next to him is actually talking to him.....
this is the future of our world…….good lord, save us all…..it doesn’t help that I’m an avid people watcher..but either way…..
not one fucking person moved.
no one! they all stopped what they were doing to stare, but not one of them even remotely thought of helping this guy out......not even the people behind the continental counter thought about helping this guy pick up his bag or helping him get to a seat in the gate area….and he was struggling.
and everyone stared as us.
they stared at him because he was disabled and was stumbling....and they stared at me because i helped him.
god i’m such a freak.
i mean seriously, what the shit is wrong with people? when did everyone become so fucking selfish and unassuming of the world around them? when it comes to dictating what should and should not be taught in public education schools, whether abortion should be legal or not, or even the absolutely retarded “politically correct” we-can’t-offend-anyone bullshit….everyone seems to have a helping opinion and a desire to not be offensive…..but when it comes to actually helping a fellow human who only needs so much as a shoulder to lean on and some help carrying a bag, it’s too much. it’s not too much to gawk and stare at someone in need of help..which by the way is more offensive then calling someone the “n” word, i think…..but it’s far too much to sacrifice some part of yourself, no matter how small, to help that person....
people are so fucking kind.....(yes that comment was dripping and oozing with disdain)
it’s just depressing.
seriously.

If that makes you a freak, then I'm proud to be with you in "freak" category! I would have done the same as you... exactly.
People like you are why the world is still going 'round... and 'round... and.. you get my point. :)
Hope your Thanksgiving was a good one.
You hit it hard with this one. People are so afraid to go out of their way anymore. They're completely paranoid of everything and everyone. I'll be a good majority of those around you would have helped that guy, but they were probably worried that:
A. someone would steal their bags (or whatever)
B. this guy was faking and would pick their pockets (or something like that)
C. eventually get sued by this guy for the unbelievably innocent act of lending a helping hand (some lawyer could make what you did a personal injury case.)
Thanks for your kindness.
A lot of this has to do with upbringing...and it sounds like a lot of people with poor upbringing taking up a lot of space that day around ya.
buttah: even as the jaded journalist, I can't believe how unfriendly some people are. Guam is a little more friendly than most stateside places, but even here it's not the same as it used to be.
Walking out of a warehouse store here, I went to my truck and next to me was a woman dressed in the garb of an old age home worker. well, it was the scrubs of a nurse/health aide type and I read the name of the place on her scrubs. she had one of those flat carts with cases and cases of sodas, iced tea, gatorade and water. I put my boxes in my truck bed and then asked her if i could help. It took all of two minutes, but I could tell she had been struggling to load some of them for a bit before I got there.
I applaud you for doing the right thing. I just wish more people out there did the same. You're a wonderful, special woman ... if NA hadn't snapped you up, I would propose!
Buttah, you saw my post on the homeless guy with his ass hanging out of his pants on the side of the road. Ya know, nobody stopped for him either, besides me.
People on a one-on-one basis are largely kind, thoughtful and friendly, especially if they are personally attached to the one needing help. But people are obnoxious, self-centered pricks when in a crowd, and would rather step over someone to get ahead than help another who has fallen.
I (and all of us) have been guilty of this at times. I hope there is less of this in our future, although it seems unlikely.
i'll just leave it as: people suck!
um...what tests?!!
I don't know what it is either but people don't want to do something out of their way to help people. I give up a seat on the bus and people stare at me like I'm a maniac.
Chivalry and courtesy aren't only dead, they're bloating as they rot in the afternoon sun.
I'm proud 'o da buttah for being so nice to a stranger.
People are shitty to people... who was it that said it??? Mencken..or however you spell it... that humans are the only creatures that devote so much time to making one another unhappy... eesh. Good for you buttericious one :)

naw. finals start 8th end the 20th...of december
Holy.fucking.shit.
It's like the thoughts that I have every time I visit an airport have been magically sent to your brain and then typed by your hands and then read by my eyeballs.
People suck ass, but airport-behavior takes ass-sucking to a whole new level.
well done elle... hopefully at least one person watching your kindness will themselves be inspired to pass it on.
hopefully
Da Buttah...you are A HUGE FREAK. I mean honestly...who the fuck do you think you are...having a heart and compassion and a soul in today's society? God, I love you!
People are so ignorant its sick. I used to babysit for a girl who was developmentally slow and people would just stare at us when we would play outside...and when I say people, I mean adults. They would stand there and shake their heads in pity and then run over to their perfectly healthy kids, give them a hug, and remind them not to bother "that girl over there".
People are sad. And Im not talking about the man at the airport or the girl I used to babysit for. Im talking about the people that are too scared to help someone else for fear of...well Im not sure what the fear is because I dont have it.
Plain and simple, people suck. Not all...obviously. Its sad that the ignorant are the norm...not people like you and me...and the other people who have left you comments.
Doesn't it feel sometimes as though yer the only one awake?....
