i've got some friends, some that i hardly know..we've had sometimes i wouldn't change for the world..we chase days down with the places we will go....

i, in general, hate political discussions and religious discussions. in general, when said conversations come up, i pull the ultra american shrug of the shoulders and a "doesn't affect me, and fucked if i care what you think or anyone else for that matter...it's there, deal with it", and carry on my merry way. why? because for as much as people bitch and moan about the current state of affairs, or lack there-of, they, more often than not, do nothing to change it or see it from the other perspective....which, believe it or not, is critical to understanding....

thus....i avoid it like the mother fuckin' plague, and engage in pointless conversations about "worst puking experience" instead of such wonderful topics as the bush administration....

but...

i saw something on tv that kind of made me go "what the fuck?" a few days ago. apparently there is a lot of support for taxing the shit out of fast food in an effort to combat obesity, and for some reason this tax really doesn't seem to make sense to me. why penalize corporations for capitlizing on an obviously huge market, because people abuse it and show no self control? it's not like people don't know that shoving four quarter pounders down your throat (followed by the diet coke that saves the day...hah, god that cracks me up) isn't good for you. moreover, there is nothin to show that everyone who shoves said four quarter pounders down their throat is bound to become a 500lb amass of humanity.

yes, i'm aware that they tax the shit out of cigarettes for the same reason: to prevent people from smoking....and if you just peer outside my law school it's fairly obvious that tax has done absolute shit.

which brings me to my point: people need to take responsibility for themselves, and the government needs to realize that you can't hold society's hand. people make concious decisions, and even outside of knowing the implications of said decision, it shouldn't be the governments responsibility to say "bad citizen! no whopper for you"...it's the individual's decision to have it his way.....or opt for a subway meal......

total aside: blogging while taking notes in class isn't really effective and i appologize for the stupidity of the aforementioned shpeel, or any dissonant concerns explicated above.

in other news i was talking to a new- friend of mine on saturday. she's one of those people you meet, and in five minutes you feel like you've known each other for years and you just babble on and on about shit...so yes, as i was at the MAC counter buying the most pink and purple eyeshadows they offer, i met her...and she's awesome. anyway, the point of me bringing this up is as we were talking about our mutual wild days..she said something kind of....intriguing:

"i know drugs are bad and all, but i really think they saved me from a lot worse stuff i would have gotten into if i didn't have that kind of distraction......"

sadly, i totally understand what she means.....

You speak truth, grashopper.

The beginning of understanding starts when you understand the 'others' are much like yourself.

I love politics, and hate them in the same breath.

Ah sadly we live in that world where the rule of thumb is to blame others when you lack the self control to not do the wrong thing (ie overeat and so forth)

ah elle... if only people in power understood that you have to actually see both sides or all ten sides of something to properly understand it...

i like sin taxes... sins are optional and if you can afford the smokes you can afford the tax which goes to health care and keeps it working to save you from smoking...

And then there's hegemony...

What are these worse things that drugs distracted this girl from? You talk about lack of self-control; she needs drugs to make sure something worse doesn't happen? Haha.

But, seriously, what the fuck would she have gotten into? Child porn?

There's a pretty good correlation between some drugs and things like robbery, but it depends on the drug, I guess.

i think there's a strong correlation between my own drug use and the fact i'm still around today...

moving every 3-5 years is lonely....sometimes all the void needs is a little chemical shifting....
